Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in association with the event," they added.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official commented the incident made him speechless and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right attack five years ago," he wrote on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a gunman focusing on residents of immigrant origin in February 2020.
