The distinguished UK star Dame Helen, currently winner of an Oscar statuette, multiple Bafta awards, Globes trophies, five Emmys, and a Tony, is poised to earn an additional major award to her shelf: the Cecil B DeMille Globes' career honor.

Award Event

Dame Helen, eighty, who was given a damehood back in 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow in 2014, will pick up the award during a presentation January 8, three days before the main Golden Globes are held, during an event billed by the Golden Globes as Golden Eve.

Also part of the event will be the presentation of the Golden Globes’ Carol Burnett award for television achievement, whose winner is still to be revealed. The prior year’s honorees were Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Dame Helen represents a force of nature, and her professional journey is truly exceptional,” stated the Golden Globes president, the Globes’ leader. “Her captivating roles and dedication to acting continue to inspire generations of artists and fans too. It’s a tremendous privilege to bestow upon her the DeMille prize.”

Career Highlights

Mirren gained prominence back in the 70s through significant parts on stage at London’s West End and with the Royal Shakespeare Company and in films including O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

In the 1990s, her prominent part in the crime series Prime Suspect increased her popularity further. Other important films include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She earned an Academy Award for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in the cinematic work The Queen, a part she returned to in 2013 in The Audience, the stage production by Peter Morgan about the meetings between the queen and prime minister Thatcher, a role for which Mirren won a Tony during 2015.

Recent and Upcoming Projects

• More recent films feature Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda & Barbie, which she narrated.
• Her role in the streaming adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and honors speculation is growing about her portrayal as an ailing family head in Winslet’s initial directorial project, Goodbye June.
• In the coming year, she will appear in the role of Patricia Highsmith in the drama by Anton Corbijn, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nominations will be announced on 8 December, featuring Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another, the movie from Chloé Zhao Hamnet along with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners anticipated to be prominent.
