Iranian forces say they have struck a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed missile attacks across the region in response for a significant and ongoing offensive targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an zone in the area of the main base of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is not yet known and the US has remained silent.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have intercepted missiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Iran's Declared Retaliation

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the attack on the Islamic Republic launched by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.

That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far struck sites linked to the the regime, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The defence ministry of the UAE announced that the nation has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with great effectiveness and shot down a several projectiles," the statement continued.

It said missile fragments landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and the death of one civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
