Jurgen Klopp states rejoining to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who departed from Anfield in 2024, remarked that rejoining the club is a possibility. The 58-year-old, following a hugely successful nine-year spell which brought a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown in 30 years, now holds roles as head of global soccer with the Red Bull group and in an advisory capacity with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
Liverpool won England's top flight in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the idea of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he shared with his interviewer: “I said I refuse to lead a different club on English soil. Therefore if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, which suggests the choice could be mine later on, I don’t know. Must I choose now? If so, I wouldn't return. Fortunately, I don’t have to do that. I'll wait and observe what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding which situations would have to unfold to tempt his return to the touchline, Klopp admitted he isn't eager for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I enjoy my current role,” he commented. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing during downpours for two-and-a-half or three hours; No need for media briefings four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats each week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, however, dining out alongside the squad talking freely, is pleasant. We won a lot of games meaning regularly positive atmosphere around the place. I still have Van Dijk's laughter ringing in my ears to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, praising him for the tweaks which secured the championship last campaign. Liverpool have lost a string of losses in all competitions post heavy investment, but he rubbished the idea that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, superb talent. They have a strong balanced team. No need for concern over the club, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
He shared movingly about the death of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition in 2020, and its impact at the club. The Portugal international was killed in a road accident with his brother recently.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding the player himself, his personality mattered. It's hard to picture the team environment without him in it. I still cannot speak properly on this topic. A devastating blow for his teammates too. No one within the club will ever use it as an excuse though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Handling this individually is challenging. Impossible.”
