Interior Minister the government has presented what is being called the most significant changes to combat unauthorized immigration "in decades".

The proposed measures, inspired by the tougher stance enacted by Denmark's centre-left government, makes asylum approval provisional, narrows the appeal process and threatens travel sanctions on states that refuse repatriation.

Temporary Asylum Approvals

Individuals approved for protection in the UK will have permission to reside in the country on a provisional basis, with their situation reassessed every 30 months.

This signifies people could be repatriated to their country of origin if it is considered "safe".

The scheme mirrors the policy in that European nation, where refugees get temporary residence documents and must reapply when they expire.

The government states it has commenced helping people to go back to Syria by choice, following the overthrow of the Syrian government.

It will now start exploring forced returns to the region and other states where people have not typically been sent back to in recent years.

Asylum recipients will also need to be living in the UK for twenty years before they can apply for settled status - up from the present five years.

Meanwhile, the authorities will establish a new "employment and education" immigration pathway, and encourage protected persons to obtain work or pursue learning in order to switch onto this option and earn settlement sooner.

Solely individuals on this work and study route will be able to sponsor dependents to accompany them in the UK.

ECHR Reforms

Government officials also aims to end the system of allowing numerous reviews in refugee applications and substituting it with a comprehensive assessment where every argument must be submitted together.

The anti-trafficking legislation will be strengthened to restrict eleventh-hour slavery accusations employed to prevent returns by requiring protection claimants to disclose all relevant information promptly.

Ending Housing and Financial Support

Officials will rescind the statutory obligation to provide refugee applicants with support, ceasing assured accommodation and weekly pay.

Assistance would remain accessible for "those who are destitute" but will be withheld from those with permission to work who decline to, and from people who commit offenses or defy removal directions.

Those who "have deliberately made themselves destitute" will also be refused assistance.

Under plans, refugee applicants with property will be compelled to assist with the expense of their accommodation.

This echoes that country's system where protection claimants must utilize funds to finance their lodging and authorities can confiscate property at the border.

UK government sources have ruled out seizing emotional possessions like matrimonial symbols, but official spokespersons have suggested that automobiles and e-bikes could be considered for confiscation.
