A man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with the attack that injured New York Jets football athlete Kris Boyd.
Suspect Identified and Arrested
The suspect is a man from the Bronx, age 20. He was on Monday, facing multiple serious charges.
Details of the Mid-November Incident
The serious event took place in the middle of the night of 16 November, outside a busy New York City restaurant. Authorities characterized the event as a altercation with a group of strangers.
Boyd, age 29, was accompanied by two other Jets players and a friend in Midtown Manhattan when the taunting began.
This led to a physical confrontation, during which authorities claim Green fired at Boyd two times in the stomach.
Severe Wounds and Recovery
The gunshot hit Boyd's pulmonary organ and lodged in his major blood vessel near the heart. He was rushed to hospital in grave condition but was later discharged.
Sources state he has met with his teammates at a team training location.
Investigation and Apprehension in Buffalo
Surveillance video from the area reportedly showed Green fleeing and getting into a vehicle driven by another person.
Police apprehended Green on 8 December in Buffalo, where he was allegedly staying at his partner's residence.
A law enforcement statement noted that "a person of interest" had been apprehended.
When a team surrounded the building, the individual was seen "peeking out the window looking for an escape avenue but retreated inside after seeing the team and a canine officer," the statement added.
The situation concluded soon after, when the suspect left the apartment with his hands in the air.
The suspect had "altered his physical appearance likely to avoid detection," authorities stated further.
The Player's Career History
Before joining the Jets this season, Boyd was a member of the Houston Texans over several years in the league.
The defensive player had been on the team's injury list for the Jets after suffering a injury to his shoulder during team practice in the late summer.
