Trump Calls Relatives of Shot National Guard Soldiers to the Presidential Residence
Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has asked the family of a Guard member killed last week to visit the executive mansion.
He added that he conversed with her family and they were “heartbroken”.
Background on the Devastating Incident
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Gatherings across the state have occurred in their memory.
White House Call
The president stated he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Community members came together over the past few days at Webster County high school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been working with the military unit as part of Trump’s national effort to aid law enforcement in DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She conducted herself with inner fortitude, a bright grin and a upbeat demeanor that encouraged people around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, compassionate and always eager to help others.”
Funeral plans for Beckstrom are still being arranged.
Legal Measures and Policy Revisions
Law enforcement have accused a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of first-degree murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The event led the administration to pause refugee claims and cease issuing entry permits to owners of Afghan passports.
Status of Andrew Wolfe
The airman, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the Associated Press.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader the governor said on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.
Attorney general Pam Bondi told a news show that she also intended to visit the family.
Legacy of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with honor, per the military.
“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” Morrisey addressed the gathering at the service. “Though her time was cut short, she has created a legacy that’s going to be remembered always.”
